Institute fellowship: Candidates under this category are entitled for Institute Research\r\nAssistantship\/Fellowship as per Ministry of Education, Govt. of India norms.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\t\t<p>2. Govt.\/ Semi Govt. Fellowship Awardees, such as PMRF, CSIR-JRF, UGC-JRF, DST-\r\nINSPIRE, DBT, NBHM, PMRF, QIP, DST- WISE PhD, etc. or any other full time\r\nfellowship: These candidates are financially supported under various Govt.\/Semi Govt.\r\nschemes. The admission procedure and other requirements are the same as applicable to\r\nresearch scholars\/institute fellowship.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t<p>3. Fellowship through Project (FTP): The admission procedure and other requirements for\r\nresearch Fellows (JRFs\/SRFs) in various projects\/schemes in the institute who wish to\r\nenroll for the PhD programme are the same as applicable to Institute Research Scholars.\r\nThey will be paid assistantship\/fellowships as per the norms of the project and sanctioned\r\namount. The candidate has to fulfill all the eligibility requirements of the funding agency\r\nand the institute criteria.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t<p>4. Self financed Indian Nationals, including those on Study Leave (SF): The candidates\r\nadmitted under this category are not eligible for any financial support from the Institute\u00a0 (IIT\r\nRopar). Candidates with the provisional DST INSPIRE fellowship award letter may apply\r\nunder SelfFinance (SF) category. After successful admission, if the candidate\r\nsubsequently clears the final round of selection of DST INSPIRE, s\/he would be allowed to\r\nconvert from the SelfFinance (SF) to Fellowship\u00a0 Award (FA) category. Candidates who are\r\nreleased from the Government or educational Institutions on study\u00a0 leave for a period not\r\nless than three years for doing research work at IIT Ropar, can seek admission under this\r\ncategory. Sponsored Candidate (SW):\u00a0 The candidates admitted under this category are not\r\neligible for any financial support from the Institute (IIT Ropar) and are sponsored by their\r\nemployers. They are expected to be relieved for full time course work and research at the\r\nInstitute for a minimum period of three years. An appropriate sponsorship letter should be\r\nsubmitted at the time of written test and\/or interview.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\t\t<b>PART-TIME Ph.D.<\/b>\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t<p>1. External Registration Program (ERP):\u00a0\r\nThis category refers to a candidate employed in an R&D organization\/academic\r\ninstitution\/industry having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the\r\nPh.D. degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under\r\na Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a\r\nfaculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the department in which the candidate is\r\nregistered.\u00a0\r\n\r\nA candidate in this category is a professionally employed person having regular\r\nemployment in Government Organizations, like MEITY, DRDO, MHA, CSIR, Central\r\nUniversities (including IIT Ropar regular staff), the employees of National and International\r\nreputed private organizations\/industries, viz. Reliance, TATA, Birla, Samsung, Nokia,\r\nInfosys, GE, similar MNC companies, etc., who would like to pursue the Ph.D. program\r\nwhile continuing the employment at their parent organization. The institute does not\r\nprovide any financial assistance\/fellowship to such a candidate.\r\n\t\tTemporary employees, outsourced employees, employees from private universities, start-\r\nups, small enterprises etc are not eligible.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t<p>2. Part-time: A research scholar under the Part time PhD Programme will carry out major\r\npart or all of his\/her research work at IIT Ropar under the supervision of supervisor(s) at\r\nIIT Ropar. The feasibility of doing this with sufficient intensity will be an important\r\nconsideration in admitting the scholar in this category.\r\n\r\nA candidate in this category is a professionally employed person having regular\r\nemployment in Government Organizations, like MEITY, DRDO, MHA, CSIR, Central\r\nUniversities (including IIT Ropar regular staff), the employees of National and International\r\nreputed private organizations\/industries viz. All\r\ncommon rules laid down in the Ph.D. Regulations relating to course work, prosecution of\r\nresearch work under the supervision of a member of faculty, etc. shall be applicable.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t<br>\r\n\t\t<b>Regulations pertaining to all kinds of PhD programs will be common, unless stated\r\notherwise.<\/b>\r\n\t\t<br>\r\n\t\t<b>Regular Full-time Ph.D.<\/b>\r\n\t\t<p>For the Minimum Eligibility Qualification (MEQ) for admission to Regular Full-time Ph.D\r\nprogrammes refer table 1 below:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\t\t<br>\r\n\t\t<b>Eligibility Requirement for ERP candidates<\/b>\r\n\t\t<p>1. Minimum eligibility requirements: In addition to possessing the academic qualifications\r\n\t\tmentioned in the table 1 under regular full-time Ph.D program, an applicant should fulfill\r\n\t\tthe following additional requirements also:<br>\r\n\t\t2. GATE or equivalent qualification:\u00a0\r\n\t\tMinimum qualification for these candidates is the same as for regular PhD candidates\r\n\t\texcept that the requirement of qualifying in a national examination (e.g., GATE or\r\n\t\tequivalent) is waived off.<br>\r\n\t\t3. No Objection Certificate:\u00a0\r\n\t\tPrior permission\/No Objection Certificate (NOC) has to be obtained from competent\r\n\t\tauthority before applying for admission to the program. NOC has to be submitted at the\r\n\t\ttime of submission of application. Institute work should not suffer due to joining the PhD\r\n\t\tprogramme by the candidate.<br>\r\n\t\t4. Selection Procedure:\r\n\t\tShort-listed eligible staff will be called for a written exam or interview or both. Final\r\n\t\tselection is based on the performance of the staff in the written exam or interview or both.<br>\r\n\t\t5. Fellowship:\r\n\t\tMembers of staff permitted and enrolled for the PhD degree shall not be entitled to institute\r\n\t\tfellowship.<br>\r\n\t\t6. Duration:\r\n\t\tThe minimum period to be spent in the research work registered under the Part-Time\r\n\t\tPh.D. degree for staff shall be 4 years. The maximum period admissible for completion of\r\n\t\tthe course work, research work and submission of the thesis, shall, however, remain to be\r\n\t\tthe same as in the case of regular candidates.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t<br>\r\n\t\t<b>International Candidates\u2013 Admission to Ph.D<\/b><br>\r\n\t\t\t\t<p>Foreign Nationals are those with foreign passports including those who are Person of\r\n\t\tIndian Origin (PIO) \/ Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders.\u00a0\r\n\t\tForeign nationals can only register as full-time scholars. Foreign nationals with eligible\r\n\t\tdegrees from Indian Universities will be treated on par with Indian nationals for admission\r\n\t\tpurposes with prescribed fee for foreign nationals. Fellowship through Project (FTP): The admission procedure and other requirements for\r\nresearch Fellows (JRFs\/SRFs) in various projects\/schemes in the institute who wish to\r\nenroll for the PhD programme are the same as applicable to Institute Research Scholars.\r\nThey will be paid assistantship\/fellowships as per the norms of the project and sanctioned\r\namount. The research work leading to the\r\nPh.D. degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under\r\na Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a\r\nfaculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the department in which the candidate is\r\nregistered.\u00a0\r\n\r\nA candidate in this category is a professionally employed person having regular\r\nemployment in Government Organizations, like MEITY, DRDO, MHA, CSIR, Central\r\nUniversities (including IIT Ropar regular staff), the employees of National and International\r\nreputed private organizations\/industries, viz. Reliance, TATA, Birla, Samsung, Nokia,\r\nInfosys, GE, similar MNC companies, etc., who would like to pursue the Ph.D. program\r\nwhile continuing the employment at their parent organization. All\r\ncommon rules laid down in the Ph.D. Regulations relating to course work, prosecution of\r\nresearch work under the supervision of a member of faculty, etc. shall be applicable.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t<br>\r\n\t\t<b>Regulations pertaining to all kinds of PhD programs will be common, unless stated\r\notherwise.<\/b>\r\n\t\t<br>\r\n\t\t<b>Regular Full-time Ph.D.<\/b>\r\n\t\t<p>For the Minimum Eligibility Qualification (MEQ) for admission to Regular Full-time Ph.D\r\nprogrammes refer table 1 below:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\t\t<br>\r\n\t\t<b>Eligibility Requirement for ERP candidates<\/b>\r\n\t\t<p>1. No Objection Certificate:\u00a0\r\n\t\tPrior permission\/No Objection Certificate (NOC) has to be obtained from competent\r\n\t\tauthority before applying for admission to the program. NOC has to be submitted at the\r\n\t\ttime of submission of application. Institute work should not suffer due to joining the PhD\r\n\t\tprogramme by the candidate.<br>\r\n\t\t4. Selection Procedure:\r\n\t\tShort-listed eligible staff will be called for a written exam or interview or both. Final\r\n\t\tselection is based on the performance of the staff in the written exam or interview or both.<br>\r\n\t\t5. Fellowship:\r\n\t\tMembers of staff permitted and enrolled for the PhD degree shall not be entitled to institute\r\n\t\tfellowship.<br>\r\n\t\t6. Duration:\r\n\t\tThe minimum period to be spent in the research work registered under the Part-Time\r\n\t\tPh.D. degree for staff shall be 4 years. The maximum period admissible for completion of\r\n\t\tthe course work, research work and submission of the thesis, shall, however, remain to be\r\n\t\tthe same as in the case of regular candidates.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t<br>\r\n\t\t<b>International Candidates\u2013 Admission to Ph.D<\/b><br>\r\n\t\t\t\t<p>Foreign Nationals are those with foreign passports including those who are Person of\r\n\t\tIndian Origin (PIO) \/ Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders.\u00a0\r\n\t\tForeign nationals can only register as full-time scholars. Foreign nationals with eligible\r\n\t\tdegrees from Indian Universities will be treated on par with Indian nationals for admission\r\n\t\tpurposes with prescribed fee for foreign nationals.
